The Kunuku Man- A local hero transforming Curaçao receives MCB Prize 2024

Willemstad - Our dushi Curaçao is a paradise cherished by locals and visitors alike. But every paradise requires caretakers, and one individual has stood out for his unwavering dedication to preserving the island's beauty: Mr. Frans van der Post, also known as The Kunuku Man. As a passionate environmentalist, The Kunuku Man made it his mission to protect Curaçao’s natural beauty by spearheading clean-up initiatives across the island, from bandariba to bandabou.

For years, The Kunuku Man has inspired countless people with his grassroots efforts. Together with his devoted team of volunteers, he has organized clean-ups in public spaces, beaches, and neglected areas, transforming litter-strewn environments into pristine oases. His initiatives are not just about picking up trash—they are about fostering a culture of environmental responsibility and pride in Curaçao’s natural beauty. Through his work, he has ignited a sense of community, proving that everyone has a role to play in protecting the environment.

That is why, for us at Maduro & Curiel’s Bank, The Kunuku Man is the true winner of this year’s MCB Prize. This award is given to recognize a person, event, organization, or company that, in our humble opinion, has excelled and/or made a significant positive impact in our community this year. This year marks the 28th consecutive year that we’re giving out the MCB Prize. On this occasion, MCB donates the amount of NAf. 25,000.- to The Kunuku Man. This is a recognition of the amazing work he and his team of volunteers do to keep our beautiful Curaçao clean.

What sets The Kunuku Man apart is not just his relentless commitment but the innovative ways he involves the community. He collaborates with schools, encouraging young people to participate in clean-ups and learn about sustainable practices. His team frequently engages local businesses and organizations, uniting the island in a shared mission. Moreover, his use of social media to raise awareness has turned these clean-ups into a movement, with more residents joining each initiative.

The impact of The Kunuku Man’s work is visible and tangible. Beaches are cleaner and neighborhoods shine brighter. Yet, his influence goes far beyond aesthetics. His efforts have heightened environmental awareness across Curaçao, inspiring people of all ages to take action. By addressing pollution head-on, The Kunuku Man is not only preserving the island’s beauty but also contributing to its sustainable future.

It’s clear that The Kunuku Man’s dedication deserves recognition. His tireless efforts have touched countless lives and reinforced the importance of stewardship in Curaçao. Awarding him for his positive contributions would not only honor his work but also inspire others to join this vital mission. The Kunuku Man is more than an environmental advocate; he is a symbol of hope, action, and unity for Curaçao—and to us at Maduro & Curiel’s Bank, he’s a true local hero.

We congratulate The Kunuku Man and his team for their incredible work in keeping Curaçao clean and beautiful, ensuring the island remains a paradise for generations to come.

Masha Masha Pabien and most of all Masha Masha danki for doing what you do and encouraging our entire community to work together and keep our dushi Kòrsou clean!
